The LGMA and the Institute of Public Administration recently collaborated on a piece of research profiling case study examples of local government innovations during Covid-19.
The piece looks at the establishment nationally of Community Call Fora, led by local authorities, which co-ordinated the efforts of stakeholders - volunteers, community organisations, state agencies, health providers and others - to provide support to the most vulnerable members of society.
Case study examples of innovation in specific local authorities are also profiled. These include:
- The continuance of cultural life in Limerick during Covid-19
- Supporting social inclusion in Cork County
- Facilitating transport mobility in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick cities
The research demonstrates once again the innovative and creative ways local authorities responded to significant challenges brought about by the pandemic, and highlights the lessons the sector can learn from to overcome future challenges.
